Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) remains adamant about a letter allegedly written by its founder, Imran Khan, to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), outlining ‘remedial measures’ to bridge the gap between the establishment and the public. However, security sources on Tuesday refuted the claim, stating that no such letter had been received.
According to PTI leaders, Imran Khan’s letter, which has not been disclosed to the media, highlighted increasing public dissatisfaction with the establishment and suggested corrective steps.
PTI’s interim chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, said the letter was written in Imran Khan’s capacity as a former prime minister and leader of the country’s largest political party. He reportedly urged the army chief to reassess policies to restore public trust.
Contrary to these claims, security sources dismissed reports about the letter, stating that the military establishment was neither interested in receiving it nor willing to engage in any such communication. They suggested that if PTI was serious about negotiations, it should approach political entities instead of the military. They further clarified that even if the letter were received, it would not be entertained.
This development follows a previous controversy involving a meeting between the PTI leadership and the army chief. While PTI had described the meeting as positive, military sources denied any political discussions taking place.
Meanwhile, PTI’s Central Information Secretary, Sheikh Waqas Akram, defended the proposed remedial measures, calling them a viable solution to Pakistan’s ongoing challenges. He stressed that the recommendations could help heal national divisions and set the country on a path of stability and progress.
A PTI spokesperson reaffirmed that Imran Khan’s suggestions were in Pakistan’s best interest, emphasizing his commitment to constitutional supremacy, rule of law, and genuine democracy. He accused rival political leaders, Asif Ali Zardari and the Sharif family, of using their positions for personal gain rather than serving the country.
With Pakistan at a critical juncture, the PTI leader warned of dire consequences if corrective action was not taken. He reiterated that February 8, the first anniversary of the general elections, would be marked by peaceful protests nationwide.
Calling February 8 a historic day when the public stood by their leader, he alleged that PTI was deprived of its rightful victory through electoral manipulation. He vowed that the party would proceed with its scheduled rallies and gatherings, asserting its democratic and constitutional rights.
